Saudi Arabia permits the import of used household effects and personal belongings by a person holding valid residency, against a detailed inventory. The prohibited and controlled list is applied strictly and covers items that are entirely unremarkable in a British house. Residency has to be in place before goods clear, which is the biggest sequencing constraint on the route.

What the package covers, and who we listen to
Start with the policy rather than the quotation. Origin services covers this end — survey, packing, materials, collection, export clearance and shipping. Destination services covers the far end — port and terminal charges, customs clearance, delivery, unpacking and debris removal. Many packages fund one generously and the other thinly, and the gap lands on the family.
Exclusions is where the money is. Storage at either end, insurance above a stated limit, vehicles, pets and anything the policy calls ancillary are the usual ones. On this route the storage exclusion matters more than anywhere, because of the sequencing.
That sequencing: goods clear against your residence permit, so a container arriving before the permit exists sits at the receiving end accruing charges — and those charges are exactly what a package tends to exclude. Getting the order right is worth more than any negotiation on the shipping cost.
